June story of the month: Shield of Sparrows by Devney Perry

So we're a bit late kicking off our June read, but honestly, this one feels worth the wait.

This month’s pick is Shield of Sparrows by Devney Perry. This is touted as a slow-burn, high-stakes romantasy, and it'’s been getting a lot of love on TikTok. It promises cursed kingdoms, broody monster hunters, an arranged marriage no one asked for, and a princess who’s finally ready to stop playing nice. If you're into high-stakes journeys with slow-burn tension, this one should hit the spot.

Why we chose it

After putting it to a vote, Shield of Sparrows came out ahead, and I have to say, I’m pretty excited! It’s always fun seeing what resonates with the group, and this month you all clearly wanted something with a bit of grit and fantasy drama. I’ve been in the mood for a good new fantasy romance, and this one has been recommended by a few friends and early readers who absolutely loved it. It’s also the first book in a new series, so fair warning that we’ll be waiting a bit for book two. But from what I’ve heard, it’ll be worth it.

  • Series like Throne of Glass or Fourth Wing

We’ll be reading this one through the end of the month, so there’s still time to join in. Keep an eye on the club chat for check-ins and discussion prompts. Can’t wait to see what everyone thinks once we get into it!
